About Me Info (xx = none given)
MeadowMom's picture Bio: Laurie Williams has a life long love for wild places, handed down to her by her father, whose family used to set off hiking for several days from their farm in what is now Oakland in order to camp in the Santa Cruz mountains and beaches. She and her husband Larry Williams set up the first climbing guide business in California, Mountaineering Guide Service, based in the Palisades, in 1958. After his death a decade later, she continued her involvement in the mountains by leading Sierra Club trips and informal expeditions with students from the high school where she worked, always keeping an eye out for kids who checked out mountaineering literature. She has placed a series of stories on another website and is now refining them to present here at OutInUnder, in search of the kind of informed feedback and conversation this community can provide.
