Al Tabor - Yearly Molt
Al Tabor speaking:
Up until the late 90's, I got one haircut a year. Victor decided this needed to be chronicled and took photos of the process more or less weekly. My favorite photo is the one featured here. My then-assitant, Tom Taylor, is standing off to the side with a big fan to give me the wind-blown look. The haircut was trigger each year but the first two hot weeks of spring/summer. The hair was usefully warm in the winter but uncomfortable in the summer. I moved to San Francisco in the mid-90's. There it has slowly gotten foggier and foggier as the area slightly inland has gotten hotter and hotter. (That heat pulls in the coastal fog.) As a result, I've stopped the yearly haircut. Global warming destabilized my molt pattern!
